Artist Statement

To me, drawing is the end result of a process that begins long before putting my pencil to paper;  and it starts with an emotion. I believe that communicating emotions such as beauty, peace, or loss, connect the artist with the observer.  From a specific emotion, I explore concepts and imagery to determine the most appropriate way to communicate that feeling.  Then, I draw it.

About Marty Mayeaux

Marty Mayeaux  has studied art concepts at Sacred Heart High School in Ville Platte, Louisiana. As a child, doodling was his preferred hobby along with drawing primitive stop motion animation scenes on the page edges of his study books. After a long pause in drawing for up to twenty years, he returned to drawing in the spring of 2015 with his first graphite work, Steamboat Depot. His influences include newsprint art by Loui Jover and  the imagery of Andre Kohn.  He attempts to communicate culture and emotion through the use of dry media, including charcoal, graphite, colored pencils, and Conté crayons.
